The Furibisha Anaguma /振り飛車穴熊 (aka The Ranging Rook Bear-in-the-Hole) is a defensive shogi castle designed to protect the king by moving it deep into the corner of the board, resembling a bear hiding in a hole.
How To Build A Furibisha Anaguma formation
- Move the rook to a file you like.
- Move the king to the castle’s key position.
- Coordinate the right gold and silver generals to build the castle.
- Move the left gold general up to the second rank to strengthen the position.
As the name “Bear-in-the-Hole” suggests, this strategy involves moving the king into the corner and covering it with gold and silver pieces. While the concept is simple, it requires a significant number of moves to set up.
Since Steps 1 and 2 are the same as the Mino castle, you can choose between building the Anaguma or the Mino castle, depending on the opponent’s speed of attack.
In Ranging Rook games, the most popular castle is the Mino castle, which is easy to use, while one of the most solid castles is the Anaguma.
